Step one: Visit us!
We encourage interested families to attend a tour of our school before applying. Select a date to tour TECA and have your questions answered.
Tours begin at 8:30 am and typically end by 9:30 am following a Q&A session. Please arrive at 8:20 am to sign up and review your tour packet. There is no need to sign up for a tour; select whichever date works best for you. Meet the tour guide in the main lobby of our building.

Step two: Apply
Once you have toured our school we welcome you to submit an application for any grade TK-8th. As an independent public charter school, Thomas Edison Charter Academy does not charge a fee for applying or attending; nor does TECA participate in the SFUSD Lottery. We conduct our first round placement lottery in February. Following this initial lottery, additional lotteries are held at regular intervals until all spaces are filled.
You can apply either in person or online. You can pick up a paper application from the school office starting October 3rd. We hope the availability of an online application will be a much more convenient way for families to apply for a space at TECA from the comfort of your own home. The online application for the 2018-19 school year will be available on October 11.

The deadline to apply for the first round lottery is January 31, 2018.
If you prefer a paper application or need assistance completing your online application, listed below are the dates that we will be available to help you or accept your paper application.
Paper Application Acceptance Sessions to apply for 2018-2019:
October 26th - 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
November 28th- 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
December 20th- 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
January 31st- 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
If you plan to apply with a paper application, you must attend one of the sessions listed and bring copies of the following documents. If you apply online you will be asked to upload the following documents:
Copy of birth certificate or other birth verification document permitted by law
Student’s current immunization records
Two (2) proofs of residency in California for parent/guardian (see list below)
Most recent report card for grade level verification, for 1st-8th grade applicants only
We cannot make copies of these materials, please make sure to bring a copy of whatever documents you may need. If you do not have all the documents, your application cannot be accepted.
Step three: Lottery
TECA holds our first round placement lottery in late-February. You will be notified of the results and whether your child was accepted or placed on our waiting list in mid-March via email and a letter mailed to your primary address.
Step four: Register
If your child is accepted to TECA you will be offered the option of an online registration process or you can bring in documents to our school office. These documents are due in April. Families with incomplete registration materials will not be guaranteed a space at TECA.
Accepted families will be invited to a new family Ice Cream Social in May to meet other new students and their families, as well as to meet their new teachers.
Waiting List and Follow-up Lotteries:
Should your child not receive a spot at TECA in the initial placement lottery in February, we will place your child on the waiting list. We will hold subsequent lotteries for any spaces that become available. The follow-up lotteries will occur in:

Round 3: May
Round 4: August
Round 5: September
Round 6: October
Round 7: December
