San Francisco Unified will have a new Superintendent!
Dear TECA Community,
San Francisco Unified School District made the announcement last week that they will be moving forward with hiring Dr. Vincent Matthews as its new Superintendent. Dr. Matthews is not new to San Francisco, nor to TECA. In 2001, when TECA was still under Edison Learning Inc., Dr. Matthews was the Principal at Edison Charter Academy as well as a Vice President for Edison Schools.
In 2011, Edison Charter Academy split from its parent organization and became Thomas Edison Charter Academy. As a standalone 501(c)(3) nonprofit, TECA continues to thrive under its current charter and was designated a “Top Bay Area School” by Innovate Public Schools during the 2016-17 school year.
We look forward to partnering with Dr. Matthews and inviting him back to TECA so he may see the incredible learning gains made by our amazing students, the talents of our world-class staff, and the positive and growing impacts TECA has had in the broader community. No longer having an affiliation with Edison Learning, we are confident that SFUSD and TECA will continue its wonderful working relationship and mutual respect for how we serve students and families in the Bay Area.
At TECA, we stand behind our mission that “the instructional process is a model of collaboration and community in a safe, socially just, and respectful environment.” Our continued commitment to this fundamental value is the bridge between TECA and our friends within SFUSD.
